What Are The ODDS?

Many times, we worry most about things that we shouldn’t waste time worrying about.  At the same time, we put off thinking about the inevitable life issues that most of us are bound to experience.  For instance, check out the following statistics:

Odds that you will die in the following circumstances:
·       While riding a bicycle                                 1 in 340,000
·       Lightning strike                                           1 in 10,500,000
·       While aboard a commercial aircraft            1 in 29,000,000

I would suggest that you continue to use caution during an electrical storm by staying indoors and away from windows and that you obey the rules of the road while riding your bicycle, however, your odds are in your favor in the aforementioned situations.

Now consider the odds that you will require assistance with your activities of daily living* before you die:
·       1 in 2
*Activities of daily living include Bathing, Dressing, Toileting, Transferring (getting out of bed or a chair), Eating, Maintaining Continence and Cognition.

When the time comes where you or someone you love needs assistance, who will provide the assistance and at what price?  There are solutions that protect your estate, the quality of your loved ones’ lives during your time of need and your own life.  Each situation is different and requires a unique approach, however, there are solutions and, those solutions are generally much more affordable before you get to the age where you need help.  Planning for that stage of life now can alleviate the pressure when you require assistance.
